No. 13 Top Reviewer Robert Morris

From a comment by No. 13 Top Reviewer Robert Morris:
"I read and highlight at least one book a day (often more) and, yes, I only review books which I admire."

Not only Robert Morris reads his books, but highlights them also! So here's another guy who wants you to believe he reads at least a book a day, and actually more than that, because he only reviews the books he admires -- not just loves, or likes, but admires. Well, unless he somehow manages to buy only the books he admires, he's gotta be reading MORE than one book a day!

Also, wouldn't buying a book (or more) every a day be prohibitively expensive?

I think it would only be fair to add Rober Morris to the list of Our Friends Top Reviewers, right after Harriet Klausner, Grady Harp, John Matlock "Gunny", and W.Boudville.

How does one know if they 'admire' a book if they haven't read it?? I don't understand these kind of statements. Hk says the same thing, "I only review books I like." I wish I had that gift. It would save me a ton of money.

And what are you highlighting for??

Malleus said...

Precisely my thoughts. But in addition, I'd say, this would obviously occur to any human being with, like MK would say, IQ over 65. Isn't it funny how these guys, with a completely straight face, propose total nonsense.

Like I (or anyone) is gonna believe he reads a book or two (or who knows how many) a day just because he asserted that he does... reads and highlights. Oh my... even highlights. I wonder if he then sells them as "opened and highlighted but unread"... a la JMGunny.

Today Rober Morris's comments were visited by a sock-puppet defender! Amazing, when it comes to defense of the undefensible, it always comes from trolls of some sort.

Check this out:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0071481834/ , look for the review by Rober Morris; then Comments.

Visit the profile of "Josh_Clemens"; notice how pristinely empty it is. Does it look like a hastily set up sock-puppet account to you, or am I perhaps over-suspicious of the human race?

So, do you think the top 5-10 reviewers now get free book sent from the publisher in hopes of good reviews? What if these people don't like a book and bash it? Honestly, I like the reviews that are more negative than positive. I find the more negative, the more honest rather than the typical it is such a good book crap out there!!

"So, do you think the top 5-10 reviewers now get free book sent from the publisher in hopes of good reviews? What if these people don't like a book and bash it?"

I suspect they do get free books. However, I suspect they 'somehow' know that they will get a great review. I have yet to see one of the top reviewers dish out a 1-3 stars for a book. I feel it is all a scam as far as the top reviewers go. I tend to appreciate the reviews written by the 'bottom' reviewers.

Stephanie,

I agree. The "uncounted" reviewers are the ones who are more helpful to me, and I appreciate their honesty even when giving a bad review. Those bad reviews have actually saved me some money on occasion. I've also been surprised when I've given something one or two stars and I actually get more HV's than I expected.

JJJS,

Regarding 'Rober' Morris' review and comments. You are so funny! I agree that it looks like Josh_Clemens might have recently become a member. Oh, say on May 13th?? I have to wonder why Robert couldn't just answer your repeated question? He skirted around it and then when he realized you weren't going to give up had 'someone else' jump in to defend him. VEry tranparent.

Hi Misfit!

And I still want to know what the highlighting is for.

Misfit said...

Stephanie, I'm confused. What highlighting?

Stephanie said...

Misfit,

Reviewer Robert Morris says that he not only reads the books but highlights them as well. Your guess is as good as mine!
If you haven't already, check the dialog out on one of his reviews:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0071481834/

It's between Morris and JJJS.

Sorry! I just realized that sounded like I was asking you about it. My bad...

Boy, what a pleasure it is to hear normal people evaluate the situation normally :-) ! Thank you for proving that I'm not crazy or something. Yes, I agree (obviously) with what you, guys, said -- as, I think, any 'unattached' (to the publishing industry, wink-wink, nudge-nugde) person would.

Misfit, 'highlighting' I take to mean marking up a book with highlighters. I myself do it a lot (every book I read is destroyed :-), meaning I couldn't sell it as 'clean'). I suppose Robert keeps repeating that not only does he read his books, but he also highlights them in order to stress how seriously and diligently he reads his books. Now, that's fine -- and like I've said, I highlight and scribble all over the books I read myself -- But! There's a but here.

The same old 'but': you can't read that much, highlighting or not. And, although I too highlight my books, I certainly don't post a review or more every day (neither are those few that I've posted over the years all positive).

Misfit said...

OK, I get it. I thought I was talking about highlighting something. That goodness I'm not loosing my mind.

Boy, you and krossd sure have stirred up a tempest in the last couple of days with MM, haven't you?

"Boy, you and krossd sure have stirred up a tempest in the last couple of days with MM, haven't you?"

And I said I was not going to respond. What is my problem?! I have to wonder just how stable IT is. I will admit, my first response to anything is sarcasm. I should work on that...

Malleus said...

Hmmm... "Josh_Clemens" added S.A.M., Lonnie Holder, and KrossD to his list of "Interesting People"! :-)

I congratulate all the parties involved!

And MM I see. What an interesting mix. Notice the "hometown" of Hannibal (sp?) MO, and the last name of Clemens?

Malleus said...

Shouldn't it have then been Missouri? :-) Well, no matter: the guy does the typical Amazon-troll thing, that is, changing topics, turning to personalities, tossing in a pile of non-sequiturs, etc. This seems to be the only thing these on-request reviewers can think of to shield themselves from public scrutiny. Kinda childish, I think.

Misfit said...

JJJS, MO is the abbreviation for Missouri according to the USPS:

Malleus said...

Holy Christ, I thought it's Montana!

Well, then of course, the guy flatters himself with a Samuel Clemens parallel. Do I catch a bit of literary pretense in it? Hmm... who could that be... :-))))

KT Grant said...

Has MO done any reviews for Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn?
Sorry just had to say it. LOL

Malleus said...

No, to date, 'Josh_Clemens' doesn't seem to have ever conducted any visible business on Amazon other than posting today a few suggestive but baseless and illogical remarks in Robert Morris's reviews comments sections. His messages also contain copyrighted texts from this blog in their entirety. A truly smart guy, yes, but no, no reviews.

Amazon is the playground of every kind of troll, sockpuppet, meatpuppet, concern troll, astroturfers and shills. I've seen a lot of empty accounts, (no profile information, no wish lists, no reviews, complete blank), open recently and these people rush to do battle with anyone questioning "top" reviewers.

My personal favorite is the type that says to me " I don't like HK's reviews either but..." and then they launch a personal attack. It makes no sense at all. If you did not think her reviews were of any value why would you go pick a fight with a total stranger who was questioning the authenticity of her reviews?

Malleus said...

"Josh Clemens" has become "Diogenes" now. Ever ambitious, somewhat self-flattering, but you gotta give it to him: the pretense is high-class!
